Wellesley history & Exhibit center

Now Open!

The Wellesley History & Exhibit Center is the new community hub for exploring, preserving, and sharing the story of our town. Operated by the Wellesley Historical Society, the Center is the first public, non-profit facility in Wellesley dedicated entirely to history and heritage.

For the community, the Center provides opportunities to:

  • Visit rotating exhibits that showcase Wellesley’s history through places, people, and institutions.

  • Research and learn with access to the archives and staff support.

  • Gather together at programs, lectures, and events for all ages.

  • Host meetings and celebrations in rental spaces available for community or private use.

The building is more than exhibit space. It houses the Historical Society’s archives and collections in a modern, climate-controlled setting, ensuring the town’s artifacts, artwork, and documents are preserved for generations to come. Researchers and students can access these resources on-site, making the Center a place for both learning and discovery.

With its central location and welcoming design, the Center makes Wellesley’s history more accessible than ever before. It is a place where neighbors, visitors, and families can connect with the past and see its impact on the present.

Current Exhibit:

Wellesley Through Time

The inaugural exhibition, Wellesley Through Time, tells the story of Wellesley through three themes:

  • Places – the neighborhoods, landmarks, and landscapes that shaped the town’s development

  • People – residents whose lives and stories reflect Wellesley’s character across generations

  • Institutions – schools, organizations, and civic groups that have guided and been guided by the community

Together, these stories show how Wellesley has grown and changed while maintaining a unique identity. Visitors will see familiar places in a new light, discover the people who helped shape the town, and reflect on how community has always been central to Wellesley’s story.

As the first of many rotating exhibits, Wellesley Through Time sets the stage for a continuing exploration of the town’s history, ensuring there is always something new to experience at the Center.
