“The U.S.S. Constitution in War and Peace”
Anne Grimes Rand, Executive Vice President of the U.S.S. Constitution Museum, will discuss the history of that famous warship, including its role in suppressing the Barbary Pirates and its famous battles in the War of 1812.

“The American Home Front”
Nan Morrow and John Dirlam, Board Members of the Wellesley Historical Society, will discuss the American home front during World War I.  They will base their discussion on the large collection of original posters assembled by Nan’s father during the War.

“A Black Regiment in The Civil War”
In celebration of Black History Month, Donald Yacovone, Manager of Research at Harvard’s DuBois Institute, will discuss the history of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first black state regiment in the Civil War. (Co-sponsored with World of Wellesley.)

In honor of Patriot’s Day, Robert Martello, professor of the history of science and technology at Olin College, will discuss Paul Revere’s role in American history as both a patriot and a pioneer of the Industrial Revolution.

“An Afternoon with Louisa May Alcott"
Jan Turnquist, Executive Director of the Orchard House Museum in Concord, will present her interpretation of the life of Louisa May Alcott.  Alcott, best known for her classic novel “Little Women”, was a member of one of the most remarkable families in New England history and was a friend of many other leading authors of her day.

Historical Society Reception at the Hunnewell Estate

Hunnewell MansionA reception to benefit the Wellesley Historical Society will be held on Sunday, October 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the historic Hunnewell mansion. The reception will include music, wine and hors d’oeuvres, a display from the Society’s Denton Butterfly Collection, and a talk on the Hunnewells by historian and Wellesley resident Allyson Hayward. The Annual Dinner and Golf Tournament
